Matt Scoops up Top Prize!

Running and developing your business is a constant learning curve and one of the steepest curves is growing your team. That first new team member is a significant milestone! Everyone in the team is important and has an impact on your customers. Hiring the right staff is key to solidifying the company and the service you’ve worked so hard to build.

It was this position that we found ourselves in when we were looking to employ our first member to the team, a Support Engineer, just over five years ago. At the time, we were still learning how to run a business, let alone having any recruitment experience.

The lesson learned then, although I had no idea at the time, still stays with me today. That lesson? It’s more important to have the right person over the right skills. I met Matt through his father. After a brief chat, we decided to bring him in for an interview. He was young, inexperienced and didn’t really impress, but he showed a willingness to learn and was looking for that opportunity. And it was that willingness that impressed us, so, we took him on.

Very green ourselves, building a team was new to us and we made mistakes early on with Matt – not clearly defining our objectives, expecting too much of him and not finding out what he expected of us. We did settle down though, eventually setting up a training and mentoring programme and within a short period of time, Matt began to excel.

Liked and supported by the whole team, In fact, Matt quickly rose to Support Engineer and now five years later, is the lead Technical Engineer on the team. At 23 that’s no mean feat! He is capable of deploying a wide range of complex systems as well a supporting the needs of our customers and actively contributes to the development of the company.

But it doesn’t end there. His dedication and willingness to learn has also earned him the coveted FSB Bedfordshire Business Awards, ‘Employee of the Year’. The judges, impressed by Matt’s abilities, attitude and his overall contribution to the team, presented Matt with his award at the annual FSB Bedfordshire Business Awards ceremony, held in Center Parcs, Woburn.

Well done, Matt!

Why are we called Node IT

We often get asked this question. In IT terms, a node is a connection point or a device on a network. This could be a computer, tablet, server, phone or even the cables that make up the network. Our aim at Node IT is to Connect, Protect and Secure these nodes.
